Marlowe & Rye opened on King Street in 2018, started by Eleanor Marlowe and Jess Rye after years of buying for other people's shops and wanting to buy for their own.
Forty pieces we believe in, not four hundred we don't
We buy in small runs, a handful of pieces at a time, and we try nearly everything on ourselves before it goes on the rail. If it doesn't hold up to a full day of actually wearing it, it doesn't come back for a second season.
That means the shop is smaller than most — and that most weeks, at least one of us can tell you exactly how a piece washes, where it runs small, or which jumper we'd reach for first.
Three things every piece has to earn
It has to earn its place
Nothing goes on the rail because it filled a gap in the size run. We'd rather have a smaller shop than a fuller one.
It has to be honest about fit
Every product page tells you plainly if something runs small or drapes differently than the photo suggests.
It has to layer with what's already there
We buy each season to work with the last one, not replace it — that's the whole idea behind the Edit.
